Aquaculture - Aquaculture research
Through its links with the Department of Ichthyology and Fisheries Science, Rhodes University, senior consultants are actively involved in research and development programmes that are designed to develop culture technologies for the African aquaculture industry.
Consultants have been instrumental in developing and commercialising the culture technologies for the South African abalone (H.midae) and the African sharp tooth catfish (Clarias gariepinus). Ongoing research work is currently being undertaken to further develop and commercialise the technologies required for abalone (Haliotis midae), dusky kob (Argyrosomus japonicus), white margined and east coast soles (Dagetichthys marginatus, Austroglossus pectoralis), East coast rock lobster (Panulirus homarus) and yellow tail (Seriola lalandi). Consultants have a wide range of specialist skills, and contract research can be undertaken for all aspects of systems design (broodstock, nursery/larval systems, grow-out and filtration systems), feed and nutrition, broodstock conditioning, spawning, live feed production, and effluent beneficiation.
