This work, funded by DIFID, was undertaken by a consortium made up of MBB Consulting Engineers, Coastal and Environmental Services and EFA. The aim of the project was to develop a programme for the Eastern Cape that recognised the coast as a system, took into consideration stakeholder concerns, and proposed a style of management that was based on co-operation and shared responsibility. Specific reference was made to the goals and objectives of the White Paper for Sustainable Coastal Development in South Africa.
